hello ppl happy new year! and merry xmas and happy bday to me of course.

been away for a few days visiting my grandma at my aunt's place. she looks healthier. i think its bcoz my 4-yr-old cousin is getting naughtier. he's REALLY noisy. dear grandma still try to stuff me with food but i think i only got fat a little bit when i left the place, which is surprising considering my food intake.

one day during my stay she wanted to go to The Curve. no my grandma is not that "in". she actually just wanted to take my cousin to the huge daycare centre in IKEA which is opposite the curve coz my cousin likes the place. see how they spoil him? so i went with them. i didnt bring any proper clothes so i was walkin around the curve in sandals, shorts and t-shirt like some 40-yr-old.

so we were walkin around when i saw the girl from intec now in UQ, Sharon Loh. That, or i said hi to a pretty good looking random girl and she said hi back. either way works for me. then we walked around (we being grandma aunt and I not me and sharon) and i got bored and i went into borders and read old editions of bleach manga and looked around for novels on sale (there were none. 30 ringgit for a novel is soooo expensive how do they expect literacy rate to increase damnit). it was quite boring. i really should learn to enjoy shopping centres like a normal teenager. except that im already 21 and is no longer a teenager haha. we went back for my cousin after a few hours and he obviously had fun.

i think i shud find a new hobby.

.

Hello ppl

It's been a while. Not that i dont have things to write but like everyone else with the exception of yeam and amanda, i just couldnt be bothered. its called holiday mood. ok, lets start.

francis read my blog.

on the 4th of december, i have a flight back to malaysia from sydney. i called for a cab the night before and the cab was super punctual. premier cab summore. thats a big expensive looking shiny black cab. dunno if i'm gonna get charged extra but he's already there cant ask him to go away. driver was a professional looking indian guy who came out of the cab to help me load my luggage and greeted me.

"Hello how r u?"
"Good how r u?"
"okay. i just lost my other job."
"..."

Definitely gonna get charged extra.

So i got on the cab and he started driving to the airport. somewhere along the way, he was a little reckless in changing lane and i can hear a car honing angrily from behind but there was no collision, so i didnt pay much attention to it and continued reading some letters in my attempt at ignoring the taxi driver so that i dont have to make pointless conversations. but after a few seconds the car that was honing sped alongside us and the guy driving it shouted, "I'VE GOT A FUCKING BABY IN HERE. U PULL OVER, NOW! I SAID PULL OVER!" He looked so furious he looked like he's gonna kill someone.

The taxi driver ignored him and and kept driving, thankfully so coz it was already 1.15 and i have to check in by 1.40, so the guy tried to force us to the side of the road by pushing us from the side with his car, but not as forcefully as those scenes in the movies. still, i can hear the cars scratching against each other. i suspect the shiny black cab isnt that shiny now. driver tried to lose the guy by speeding up but the guy always catches up to try forcing us to the roadside, all the while furiously shouting about him having a fucking baby in there and demanding that the driver pull over. the driver's now pretty angry himself but he didnt stop and we lost the guy right before we reached the airport. It was a little awkward in the taxi. I checked in unscathed.

so i went thru 8 hrs of flight and arrived back in da motherland.

Reading robin hobb's soldier son trilogy now. i've had it for ages just didnt have the time to read it till now. finished the 1st book, it was great, but of course i expect nothing less from robin hobb.

i shud probably write more about francis reading my blog in case he terasa coz i only gave him 4 words. so, francis read my blog (how did he get here?) and is interested in the colour of my ipod nano, which btw is blue. I think he either already has one or he's thinking of getting one. i know its a lame conclusion to come to but u must appreciate my effort at prolonging the paragraph about francis reading my blog.

gonna go out with yeam and nat on monday.

plane tickets are so expensive. how r u guys going back?

currently relaxing at home. not really bored yet but most of the time dont really know wat to do. not complaining. just need to buy a few games. ok ok i know im very lazy maybe i'll get a job later.

ipod nano is quite awesome. got games and all.

i might not be as broke as i think. maybe. have to wait and see how much i need to spend.

i suddenly feel like reading some mechatronic stuff but dont have the books with me. oh well.

speaking of books, result is out. i got 1 pass, 1 credit, 2 distinctions. was worried i might fail but in the end i passed, so all's well. will DEFINITELY study harder next year. DEFINITELY! i learnt my lesson.

anyone wanna go yumcha? weekend is fine with me. shopping also can.

Looked around in facebook. do u know that facebook is called mukabuku in malay officially?

On a much gigantic scale, do u know that the group "I don't wanna study so i logged in to facebook and created this group" has 57 members now??*shock* Such rapid growth! and a lot of the new members i'm not even acquainted with, although i share at least 1 mutual with all of them. Must get it active again by posting more mou liu things. U guys contribute too.

"The Sze Ching Club" isnt doing so bad as well. We now have 9 members! 9! imagine that. although only 5 are real Sze Chings the others just join for fun i think. i just made all the Sze Chings admins but i dunno what else to do to make it more active. any suggestions?

No im not really that bored

My favourite japanese singer, YUI

It suddenly hit me that audrey's probably got HD for every subject she took so far. Thats right she hasnt even had something as low as a distinction yet. I think she'll cry if she does.

I'm experiencing ultimate failure syndrome.

yeah thats right i dont wanna edit my post so i keep posting new ones live with it
I think the solution to my life problem is PASSION. If i have it then i'll just rely on my PASSION to do things. Problem is i havent found anything to be passionate about.
I've always thought that the most important thing in life is to be happy and i always try to do things keeping to this rule, thinking that its the right way to live. but is it? lately i've been forced to do things that i wouldnt think will make me happy coz its a lot of hard work but it turns out to be surprisingly satisfying. which make me wonder if making the most out of my life is a proper way to live life as well. if it is, which way is the right one to follow the next time i need to decide if i'll do something? Is the purpose of living, happiness, satisfaction, to make others happy, or simply to act according to my heart instead of my brain? I'm kinda lost.

shud i study now for my quiz tomoro? its already 12.24 am and im sleepy. i know it would make me happy if i can sleep now and still do decently for the quiz tomoro so the path to take if i wanna be happy is to take a short nap, wake up later to study and sleep at 5, and i'll be able to do that bloody paper. but if i dont nap and go straight to studying i can trump the quiz and it'll bring me more satisfaction and i'll feel much better when i get the result. but why do something to get more happiness in the future, but suffer now? why would ppl think future happiness is more important the present happiness? on the other hand, i will get higher marks. But my heart tells me to go sleep. my conscience says otherwise. so what do i do? which path shud i take in life? im still lost.

i cant believe i used so many question marks.
I;m wondering if i've lived my life right. or if i'm living the right way now. or if i'm ever going to live the right way.

what is the right way of living?

ok enuff la i think
still testing
still testing
just testing
just testing to see if posting a few posts a day would get me on google reader's recommended blogs

Monday, October 13, 2008

stole this off merlin's blog, which i havnet visited for a very long time coz i have his blogspot instead of his wordpress on google reader. booyah!

also, just realised that i havent gotten any feed from xtine, qy and 1+'s blogs coz they publicised them (i think that was the term used for restricting the viewership of a blog to invited guests only). apparently they talk about alot of secrets on their blogs instead of cars for engineering projects and bacon pancakes for lunch like a certain pathetic someone with no life. i had 2 'of's and 2 'for's in the previous sentence and my primary school english teacher would have convinced me that its bad grammar. i personally see no fault in it.

no i did not imply that there is anything wrong with publicising your own blog (again the doubt regarding the correctness of the term arises in my mind [btw, is correctness even a word {is embedding brackets in other brackets even allowed in english? or any other language at that *shit i've done it again |i'll have to use double apostrophe in the next embedded brackets i use "like this one" coz i've ran out of brackets to use|. *. }? ]. ). Note the correct Harvard referencing standard of fullstops after closing brackets.

ok lame no life lame no life shud go sleep and rise like an early bird for math lecture tomoro lame.

i think i have a tendency to state my side-thoughts in brackets. its gonna be my gaya bahasa when little kids analyse my blog in the future.

some girls are scary and very sly. maybe most girls are. dont read too much into this i am NOT referring to u or anyone u may or may not know.

i like YUI. she sing nice songs. who the hell is Younha?

nvr mind i wiki'd her. oh she sang the 3rd bleach ending! ok la not bad.

i started reading tsubasa reservoir chronicles. no its not a book its a manga. but if i started talking about this then i have to give a short synopsis and then say what i think about it. im too lazy to do that so i think i'll just skip this part.

i finished "Kane and Abel" last week. this one is a book. by Jeffrey Archer. which i bought from a book sale that i went with audrey. the last feww sentences would also have been condemned by my primary skul english teacher. anyway, the book is about the life of two very different ppl starting from the time they were born, until the time they become millionaires, until they die fighting each other. the reason i spent so much time and effort (3 minutes ok!) to think out this paragraph is bcoz the book is very good, one of the unputdownable books in fact. but its quite brutal at certain parts and is not suitable for kids. since no kids read my blog (i assume) i'm gonna openly recommend it. There r reasons y it already sold more than 3,000,000 copies in 1990 ok. I like jeffrey archer's book, even though i wiki'd him and his profile turns out to be less than amusing. i also like wikipedia.

HELLO PPL

My 200th post!!!

I think with 200 posts i've written a lot of words on this blog. Altho the posts for the past few months contain lots of 1 sentence paragraphs.

***************************

The fun of doing engineering subjects is that we can do unconventional stuff to get marks. Like the air powered vehicle that we have to build (20% of unit of study). The concept is pretty easy; build a pressure tank from a normal 1.25L plastic bottle, build a vehicle, and use the tank to power the vehicle across a distance of 5 - 15 m. We wanted to build a dirigible coz the ground is quite rough but helium tank is too expensive to rent so we have to settle for a car instead. After 1 whole day of work the car we built was still quite a failure. we had to release it downhill so that the result would turn out more encouraging. But when that still hadn't worked, we released it uphill instead so thaat we can blame the inclination. I'm sure in the end it'll turn out fine.

*********************************

I finally went to Canberra! C'mon ppl its more fun than other ppl would make u believe. I learnt a lot about Australian history and government. Floriade was overrated. the lake was beautiful. japanese festival wasnt very rich with japanese culture.the girls in kimono were pretty cute. ANU has a lot of balls. parliament house was informative. war memorial was interesting. medina apartment was clean. and of course, the hosts and tour guides were very good hosts and tour guides. and thus ends my post on canberra.

i've always had the tendency to write the most basic form of a complete sentence, without elaboration. sometimes the sentences arent even complete.

Happy bday to ppl that i forgot to wished happy birthday to! ie. Chia Ling, Ling Weng, etc.

200th post!

Last week i had lunch in this cafe near the eng fac and had the biggest cultural shock of my life, in the form of my lunch itself. it was a pancake. with bacon on top. and with so much maple syrup that the pancake looked like an island in the plate. taste good actually. apparently its canadian. stop trying to imagine how it taste like coz there's no way u can.

lengthy absence was partly due to assignments (drowning), partly laziness, partly new found passion for pingpong and partly gears.

drawing gears do not fit to belong in the category of assigment bcoz it is so extremely tedious, time consuming, boring, unimaginative, monotonous, evil and despicable. The aussies just call it gay. not that i think assignments are fun but drawing gears is just on a whole new level. thats right its even lower than assignments.

i dont get much nightmares, but next time i do i'm sure i'll see gears. like in The Ring. except that instead of glowing ring on tv i see glowing gear on my computer.

i need to vacuum my room.

i just realised that i dont have as much desire as an average young person. nor passion. nor facial expression(this i was told quite a while ago). its like at some point in my life i died a little inside. wonder how long i need to search for that something to rekindle the fire.

all this, from "Last" to "fire.", was written to run away from answering: "Briefly explain how each of the following influences the tensile modulus of a semicrystalline polymer and why:" why la, why ?

Again, I fell under the magical spell of Robin Hobb

For the last meal b4 the new sem started, I cooked curry coz I dunno when again can I spend so much time cooking in the near future. I kinda felt like i shud take my own sweet time while i still could, so i did everything at a leisurely pace n finished cooking 2.5 hrs later. It was good, and it lasted 3 meals (after that all I've had were microwave food and instant noodles. But it's Saturday now so i'll cook something decent today). I made a pathetic attempt to prolong my holiday by sleeping at 5 am that night and ended up being late to my 1st lecture of the sem, as aforementioned.

Oh have I bitched mentioned that i had an assessment already, in the1st week of uni? Coz i had. It was on friday, for mechanical design. That's the subject that's supposed to teach us free-hand sketching so that we can sketch machines and their parts. Our first assignment was to sketch a block with protruding cylindrical shapes at the sides. I've always thought that i have zero talent in drawing but that cant be true coz there were ppl doing worse than me. If my assumption stands then it means they have negative artistic talent, which is not possible so we have to adjust the scale to zero their talent, thus pushing my talent to the positive side. So we come to the conclusion that I am somewhat artistically gifted.

Right b4 uni started, I finally bought Robin Hobb's liveship trilogy. I had a hard time deciding whether I'll enjoy this or the soldier son trilogy more. I am again reminded of why I love Robin Hobb so much. I find it not as unputdownable as the previous 2 trilogies of hers coz the ppl and settings keep changing every chapter but I wouldnt be able to stop mid-chapter. The level of details given to each character, the scale and completeness of the world she created and the magnificent plot with delicious twists, cleverly told, create yet another extraordinary story. Why Robin Hobb hasn't achieved the level of attention similar to, or even surpassing, that of JK Rowling or CS Lewis I couldnt imagine. She's definitely one of the best. Stupid world.

I'm listening to Switchfoot. They're good.

Result is out (some of them)

didnt do quite as well as i thought i would do in certain subjects but didnt fail anything im not supposed to fail, altho the one most feared is yet to be revealed.

it feels quite meaningless to get the result for everything except mechatronic coz i already know i wouldnt fail the others.

actually, no. i'm happy to get hd in dynamics and sad to not get hd for the other 2. it does matter.

so when the hell r they gonna release my mecha result?

ah, the sum of all fears.

all hail one-sentence paragraphs.

Oleh Andy Sabang dan Abang Ismail

Seorang pemuda maut lepas sebulan berkahwin, dua wanita maut selepas Kancil bertembung Kenari

i got this email :

There is a file attached to this email

Solve the riddle and you can open it

How to open attached file ?

There is a bus with 7 girls

Each girl has 7 bags .

In each bag, there are 7 big cats

Each big cat has 7 little cats.

Each cat has 4 legs .

Question: How many legs are present in the bus?

Number of legs is the password to open the attached file.

If you open the file, write your name on the list inside, and send
this email to your friends to let them solve it
this is the modified version. the original one has a lot of bull about how only geniuses can open the file. its pretty lame. im sure even my primary skul cousin can solve it. but anyone who wants it tell me i can send it to u.
i feel like i've been complaining alot on my blog. oh well.

Hoping a better place is all I need,
With moments of innocence and mystery,
Oh, it's the little things you miss,
Like waking up all alone,
Oh, it's the little things you miss,
When you're underneath it all.

So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high,
There's no need to rush,
We're all just waiting, waiting to die

Mechatronic ?

Studying mechatronic makes me understand how spoon-fed msian education system is. I was so ill-prepared to take the subject. week after week, they just dump you with a problem and you're supposed to solve it with whatever limited basic knowledge that they provide you during lectures, which is of course not enough. hence the need for spending dozens of hours doing research, pre-reading, discussions, and worst of all, trial and error AND debugging. you're supposed to think up new methods as you go, write out the programme and refine it until it works. all these cant be done in the mere 3 hours of lab time we have every week, so everybody stay back everyday. brilliant. i became so hardworking its scary.

it also made me realise how stupid i actually am compared to other people out there. i used to secretly think that i'm ok in terms of intelligence but man, i'm glad i realise my delusion early. i can safely say that among mechatronic students, i am below average (i secretly think that a lot of them are monsters). i guess there's a reason mechatronic is one of the hardest engineering course to get into. so yes, another gain of doing the course: a virtue called humility.

but even they feel the agony and depression. glad i'm not alone. feel free to visit our "Depressed Mechatronics Anonymous" facebook group! despite how it sounds it's actually very cool. there're pictures and song lyrics to express our feelings and stuff. something like this :

A coma might feel better than this,
Attempting to discover, where to begin,
You're weighed down you're full of something,
Of sickness and desertion,
You're weighed down you're full of something,
You're underneath it all.

So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high,
There's no need to rush,
We're all just waiting, waiting to die.

haha so cool right?

worry not, i shall persevere. Despite all the efforts we must make and all the complaints we have this subject is actually quite fun, coz its not like those dry studying-and-doing-questions-with-definite-answers kinda subject. we actually construct something from scratch, using whatever means we can think of as long as it achieves the specifications. it lets our creativity roam free and when we get the stuff to work, its really really satisfying. in fact i now look down on those dry studying-and-doing-questions-with-definite-answers kinda subject which i still have to take, but i guess they make life easier.

time to do my due-tomorrow Mechanics of Solids assignment!(relatively peanuts, but i've been skipping so many lectures i must study 1st before i can do it)

YYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

VICTORY !!!!

surely this is worth missing lectures for.

News websites crash as poll results pour in
Mar 9, 08 6:04pm

Malaysian news websites, popular as an an alternative to government-linked mainstream media, crashed under the demand for news as elections handed the ruling coalition a stunning upset.

Operators said they were unsure if it was a systematic attack or if high demand on websites had triggered a shutdown mechanism when results began going online yesterday night.

"The traffic was so high that it triggered an automatic mechanism which assumed we were under attack, automatically shutting down our website," said Steven Gan, co-founder of online news journal Malaysiakini.

"But we cannot be sure if it was a deliberate attack or just a genuinely high volume of traffic," Gan told AFP.

Malaysiakini was among many online news websites that were inaccessible to viewers after elections for parliament and state seats.

The slow pace of the mainstream media in communicating huge gains by the opposition also contributed to viewership.

"Traffic really picked up then because the mainstream media was really blacking out the news of the results," said Malaysiakini's CEO Premesh Chandran, adding it was drawing a million viewers an hour before it crashed.

"Maybe some people wanted the results to be delayed. Almost all news websites and the forums were down," said Ng Chong Soon, operations manager of another alternative news website Merdekareview.

Under systematic attack?

Ng said other websites which went down included cari.com.my and several Mandarin-language sites.

Operators reacted by creating alternative links to their domain through blogspots and back-up servers.

"If indeed it has happened to most news websites then it would be good grounds to assume that it was some sort of a systematic attack," Premesh said.

The Barisan Nasional suffered its worst ever result in Saturday's polls, losing its two-thirds majority in parliament for the first time since 1969 and conceding four more states to a resurgent opposition.

The government is hostile to independent news blogs and websites, and has threatened them with action under draconian internal security laws.

yup. to a house 40 units down the street. y? coz i cant stand my housemate who lowers the cleanliness of the house to a level not fit for human habitation. i dun wanna live with maggots.

So yeah, we confronted each other and i moved and now i have to walk 2-3 more minutes to go to class. i met my new housemate today and he's also a malaysian! an indian guy named Logan (so was Wolverine btw). He's quite nice to talk to. im liking this house already =)

apparently he went to the same primary skul as our previous PM's and our previous deputy PM's (now a leader of an opposition party) daughter and according to him the 2 of them were best frens! but after THAT incident their relationship took a turn for the worse, which is really sad.

The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus II:

Attending all lectures 5 minutes late enables one to still get all the notes while actually having a total of 1 lecture hour less every week.

Now Blogger saves your drafts automatically!

Fullmetal Achemist

I was recently introduced to this wonderful anime series, thanx to Nooi Hoay's bro who doesnt read my blog so i cannot thank him here. And why is it so wonderful? I once read that a story is all about its conflicts, and if u think about it it's actually quite true. The main and sub-plots that make stories interesting all involves conflict; the battle between good and evil, the internal conflict of a man having to choose between 2 woman, the internal struggle of a person given difficult options to choose from, etc etc. Fullmetal Alchemist (referred to hereafter simply as fma due to my great laziness) provides that in abundance, delivering them with such creativity that it's thought-provoking. The series let viewers thread the fine lines between right or wrong and good or evil, often changing a fixed perception by just showing an event, action or character from a different angle. Most of the time, the characters were forced to take a stand and determine the right thing to do using their own judgment with their actions bringing heavy consequences. I was assured that Evangelion does this better, but I havent watched that before so i'll continue being impressed by fma. Oh, and the story rocks. Full of passion and clever twists. Watch it if you can.

Went to the Youth '08 convention today but didnt get to see Kenny Sia. Got a free AAA battery-sized shokobutsu facial foam from the 988 booth for playing a stupid game which lasted 4 seconds.

At night, Eng Peng's 21st bday party! (for d info of anyone who doesnt know, EP is my secondary skul (SMK Bukit Indah) fren who later became UPM food processing faculty's Course Queen) It was quite big coz around 45 ppl came. D interesting thing about the party is the guests were naturally divided into 2 groups : SMKBI group and UPM group. So in order to make the party more lively we had some ice-breaking games. In our groups the guys r obviously much more sporting than the girls but for their group its d other way around. Luckily, our guys and their girls made up the majority of the crowd so it was as noisy and cheerful as we hoped. Its great seeing so many of my old frens again. And Shawn was an excellent MC.
