Mechatronic ?

Studying mechatronic makes me understand how spoon-fed msian education system is. I was so ill-prepared to take the subject. week after week, they just dump you with a problem and you're supposed to solve it with whatever limited basic knowledge that they provide you during lectures, which is of course not enough. hence the need for spending dozens of hours doing research, pre-reading, discussions, and worst of all, trial and error AND debugging. you're supposed to think up new methods as you go, write out the programme and refine it until it works. all these cant be done in the mere 3 hours of lab time we have every week, so everybody stay back everyday. brilliant. i became so hardworking its scary.

it also made me realise how stupid i actually am compared to other people out there. i used to secretly think that i'm ok in terms of intelligence but man, i'm glad i realise my delusion early. i can safely say that among mechatronic students, i am below average (i secretly think that a lot of them are monsters). i guess there's a reason mechatronic is one of the hardest engineering course to get into. so yes, another gain of doing the course: a virtue called humility.

but even they feel the agony and depression. glad i'm not alone. feel free to visit our "Depressed Mechatronics Anonymous" facebook group! despite how it sounds it's actually very cool. there're pictures and song lyrics to express our feelings and stuff. something like this :

A coma might feel better than this,
Attempting to discover, where to begin,
You're weighed down you're full of something,
Of sickness and desertion,
You're weighed down you're full of something,
You're underneath it all.

So say goodbye to love,
And hold your head up high,
There's no need to rush,
We're all just waiting, waiting to die.

haha so cool right?

worry not, i shall persevere. Despite all the efforts we must make and all the complaints we have this subject is actually quite fun, coz its not like those dry studying-and-doing-questions-with-definite-answers kinda subject. we actually construct something from scratch, using whatever means we can think of as long as it achieves the specifications. it lets our creativity roam free and when we get the stuff to work, its really really satisfying. in fact i now look down on those dry studying-and-doing-questions-with-definite-answers kinda subject which i still have to take, but i guess they make life easier.

time to do my due-tomorrow Mechanics of Solids assignment!(relatively peanuts, but i've been skipping so many lectures i must study 1st before i can do it)

You know, perhaps there should be one for actuarial students.
If mechatronics give you some insight and satisfaction from building something out of scratch and getting a programme that actually works, well, I don't know what I can say about my course.

And sorry about the other day. I didn't mean to put your at the receiving end of my bad mood.
